I received this touching e-mail that I just had to post here. It's from, Heather, one of my best students at Indiana University Kokomo.
So, yesterday I was telling my two older children about Myla, and we read the blog together. My 10-year-old son Keegan had a very thoughtful look on his face. Then he declared, "I'm going to send Myla 1,000 cranes." At first I didn't really hear him and I said, "what?" He repeated that he would send Myla 1,000 cranes. I, of course, was confused and asked again what he wanted to send her? And both he and my daughter repeated, "1,000 cranes!"
I walked to where they were doing their homework and asked what that meant? Keegan explained, "In Japan they believe that if you send a person 1,000 paper origami cranes that the person will receive a sense of peace and serenity. Also, they will be granted one wish." You should know that my son is one of those origami geniuses who knows entirely too much about the art of folding paper.
I tell you this story, not because I believe that 1,000 cranes will give Myla peace and serenity, or even cure her leukemia. I believe that only God can do that for all of you. However, I thought it was a beautiful gesture, to try and give someone peace and serenity.
Hopefully, this was a story that brightened your day.
I keep checking the GoMyla blog hoping for something more...I'm trying to be patient!!
1,000 Cranes Your Way...
Heather
Thanks for sending this, Heather, and please tell Keegan that we appreciate his insight and thoughtfulness! :)
We headed down to Indianapolis tonight to our room at the Ronald McDonald House. Myla cried her head off during much of the trip. When we got to Indy, we put her head back on and headed into the RM House where we registered for our room.
