There hasn't been much to report on during the last few days, and that's not all bad. Myla's status has remained about the same, and it's just a waiting game until her immune system rebuilds itself. So far, the predictions of serious side effects have gone largely unfulfilled, and there is some indication that the medical staff are a bit taken back by the good shape she is in. For that, we are thankful. So, it has been a good "thanksgiving" after all.
On the downside, Raul Matthew has been sick with flu-like symptoms; we've been holed up in our room at the Ronald McDonald House for the last few days. Most of the people here at the house had taken off for the holidays, so it's been very slow, very quiet, and more than a tad on the lonely side. Not being able to see Melissa and Myla for Thanksgiving, even though they were only a block away, was a downer. I will say this, though--the care packages that my colleagues at IU Kokomo gave to Raul Matthew played a KEY role in keeping him occupied during this time. Thanks so much to all of you who contributed! You saved the day, or the entire weekend in this case! :)
Our intention during RM's sickness was to play it safe by staying away from the hospital room. We visited the hospital last night for a few hours since RM had seemed much better during the last couple of days. We thought he was finally over what he had.
WRONG! (I write this at 2:30 AM)
Very wrong. Let's just say that I have a few loads of laundry to do in the morning and leave it at that. RM hasn't kept much down since last Wednesday. I might need to take him back to his doctor today or tomorrow. I'm not convinced that he has the flu because he hasn't had much of a fever, but we'll see what they say.
Myla also had problems keeping things down, but that has been a side effect of the chemo treatments and not the flu. She's lost a few ounces of weight in the last couple of days. More noticeable to me was her thinning hair. This wasn't as apparent to Melissa because she has been with Myla the entire time, but it was the first thing I noticed. Not to worry, though. I've just placed an order online for a case of Ronco's "Hair in a Can."
