Round 3, Day 8

Today finds us with two interesting developments. First, we are being moved to a different hospital room because a new patient in need of isolation needs our current room. (Some rooms are set up for isolation, others aren't.) Second, Myla's redness of the eyes worsened throughout the night and Melissa just told me over the phone that Myla won't open her eyes if the lights are on. Here's a picture from last night when we started to take more notice of her symptoms. We suspect that the redness is due to the high dosage of Ara-C, one of the chemo concoctions she was given in a dose that was nearly 12 times stronger than what she had during the first two rounds. The Ara-C causes a type of chemical conjunctivitis that affects the eyes. From what I read online, it's like having Clorox sprayed in your eyes. But if you look at the picture, you can see that she has a rash-like redness on other parts of her head as well. We're not sure if that is also chemical conjunctivitis, or something else such as an allergic reaction. Hmmm.

I don't have time to create links to other images, but you can see some additional pictures from the last couple of days at http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluefork/
